To better advise clients with flexible and non-firm high-voltage connections, we are looking for a Senior Energy Systems Modeller focused on grid congestion. In this role, you will improve Voltho’s load-flow model and run simulations for concrete client cases related to congestion, connection capacity, flexibility and battery projects.
You work on real bottlenecks in the electricity grid: where does congestion occur, how long does it last, which assets cause or alleviate the problem, and what does this mean for investment decisions? You combine deep technical insight with modeling and translate complex model outcomes into clear advice for clients.
Responsibilities
- You build and improve databases and network models for electricity grids, focusing on congestion, connection capacity, curtailment, and flexibility.
- You develop, run, and validate simulations in Voltho's Gridflow model.
- You analyze where, when, and how long congestion occurs under different scenarios.
- You translate model outcomes into clear insights for clients, reports, and commercial cases.
- You collaborate with commercial colleagues to link technical analyses to client inquiries and market opportunities.
- You help further professionalize the modeling approach, assumptions, validation, and documentation.
What we are looking for
- At least 5 years of relevant experience, or 3+ years with demonstrable strong experience in network analyses, load flow modeling, or congestion studies.
- You understand the electricity grid from a technical perspective, including substations, lines, transformers, load, generation, and congestion.
- You have experience with tools such as PowerFactory, PSS/E, PyPSA, PLEXOS, pandapower, or similar modelling tools.
- You are independent, structured, and work critically.
- Experience at a grid operator, TSO, DSO, energy company, battery developer, or consultancy firm working on congestion studies, connection studies, or grid analyses.
You live in The Netherlands.
Preferably
- If you have experience with data visualization, dashboards, or client-oriented analyses.
- Are able to clearly explain model outcomes to colleagues and clients.
- If you enjoy explaining complex analyses simply.
- You have experience using AI tools to work faster and better.
You are proficient in the Dutch language.
